Nice Stuff 5

And! Listen to me on Cancel Me, Daddy!

Welcome to What’s Helping Today, a newsletter about the everyday work of staying alive on earth, written by author and journalist Sandy Ernest Allen.

To longtime subscribers to this newsletter and/or fans of mine who can especially: I’d appreciate if you could support my work with some money — via my Buy Me a Coffee page. All contributions will help me continue doing what I do. Thank you.

Hi folks!

Not a long one. Mostly wanted to share that my Cancel Me, Daddy interview is now everywhere you listen to podcasts, like … Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

It’s also on YouTube — and I mean, full-on video.

In general: I thought it all came out well!

(This was the first time I’ve been “on camera” I believe since completing the ole mid-life second puberty…)

Again: What an honor to talk with these folks. And to really publicly have this discussion, at long last.

ICYMI, read my last WHT for more set-up about this situation and other links.

For media professionals (and anyone else interested), once more: I published this long post over the weekend as a sometime companion to this episode and long-time-coming reflection re: this overall situation. (part one; part two. Start here though, to those truly new to reading me on these subjects).

Meant to add, for more from me on the Hearing Voices Movement — which I discussed some during the CMD conversation — I would suggest listening to this. Or reading this.

Anyway, here’s a little bit of Nice Stuff … and also some headlines I thought I’d share with you all, in case:

You maybe saw this, but for Pride, Hungary said ACTUALLY, FUCK YOU to their bigot leader last weekend, heck yeah!

Periodic reminder that it’s just the same assholes, behind all this hateful bullshit:

Periodic reminder that the assholes really like … want to kill us (and I mean wreck the entire planet):

But of course the most vulnerable are always hit first and hardest:

And: It’s just a few rich old dues, basically, behind this all the bullshit:

Six men in their 70s – Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, Narendra Modi, Recep Erdoğan, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Vladimir Putin – control 40% of the world population, 50% of GDP, and 60% of the world’s military. I profiled this “old guard” and what they’re doing to the world.

And, if this needs to be reminded, these current american fascists are actual monsters:

Here, if it’s helpful as you debate (or not!) your racist (even your “liberal”) relatives/coworkers:

Some background reading re: this now-upcoming SC case:

re: transphobes who attack trans women in sports etc.: It’s never actually “about” whatever they say. (It’s always just about harming trans people and whoever else … )

Grateful to see some reporting on the “forgotten” New Orleans drag queens who helped shape … rock ‘n’ roll. (Rock … have you heard of it):

Well, this sure made me smile, as a Northern Californian — who duh loves otters:

Alright, that’s it for now. I’m already seeing some really lovely comments re: the CMD interview. If you listen and enjoy, I hope you’ll share it too!!!

Thank you!
Sandy

p.s. If you’ve not before, I hope you’ll listen to my own podcast, Mad Chat — which is only on YouTube. (ICYMI: Mad Chat was my evergreen, 10-episode podcast unpacking our pop cultural depictions of “mental health” — that again even the NYT wrote a rave review of afterwards, in 2020. For the last year or so, I’d thought the episodes to be maybe lost-lost … but as I recently rediscovered, they’re on YouTube still! Hopefully I can restore them everywhere else eventually, too.)

p.p.s. Just announcing this once more:

I’m now offering consulting to media companies and professionals who cover mental health (editors, reporters, producers, etc.), and/or therapists, clinicians, and anyone else who works in this space, meaning with trans patients and/or in mental health care. Learn more about why I’m offering these services, and read lots of testimonials from patients, professionals and our families.

p.p.p.s. I’m also available for hire as a speaker related to topics like gender and / or mental health. Learn much more about my speaking work here. For potential inquiries compensating over the amount I state there, again please contact my speaking agent, Leslie Shipman directly. (Thank you for your interest!)

p.p.p.p.s. You’re welcomed to forward or share any of this with anyone you think may be interested, thank you!
